The Physiological Society Poster Prize

The Physiological Society Poster Prize competition will be in operation at this meeting.

The Physiological Society Poster Prize is awarded for the best poster communication presentation by an Affiliate Member of The Society at a Society Meeting.

Posters are judged on the calibre and clarity of scientific data, the communication of content and on the ability of the presenter to answer questions concerning the research and findings. The candidate must show that they have conducted a significant part of the work being presented.

Eligible abstracts will be reviewed before the meeting by the Theme Lead and a shortlist of six per Theme will be selected to go forward to be reviewed at the meeting.

The Physiological Society Poster Prize

The review panel will be made up of the Theme Lead, and selected colleagues.  There will be no fewer than three reviewers.  The reviewers will jointly decide and agree upon the winners.

There will be two prizes per Theme; winner and runner-up.

Poster Prize Eligibility

Pfizer Prize

Pfizer has offered support to The Society to fund a number of Pfizer Awards.

Awards, with prizes of £250 each, will be made to postgraduate students for Oral or Poster Communications according to the following rules:

Pfizer
  1. Up to six Pfizer Prizes will be awarded each year on the basis of Oral or Poster Communications.
  2. Candidates for a Pfizer Prize should be registered for a higher degree by research in a department of a higher education institute in the UK or Eire. Normally, Prizes will be awarded not more than four years from the date of the initial registration.
  3. Entrants may submit only one abstract for consideration for a Prize. When the entrant is not the sole author, the supervisor should provide a statement of the relative contributions made by co-authors.
  4. Submissions will be judged by a review panel, consisting typically of one nominee each of Pfizer, the Meetings Secretary and the relevant Special Interest Group convenor. Panel members shall not belong to the same department as any of the entrants.
  5. The panel shall meet immediately after the completion of the Session and reach a decision at that time. A majority vote by the panel will be sufficient to make an award. An award will not be made if in the opinion of at least two of the panel members it was not justified by the quality of science in the submitted abstracts.
  6. The panel will take account of the quality of the abstracts, presentations and discussions.
  7. The panel decision will be published by the Meetings Secretary and the successful candidate(s) will be notified in writing.
  8. Awards will be made at a time and place each year to be decided by the Meetings Secretary in consultation with a representative of Pfizer.
